Do you find the idea of ballroom dancing intimidating?

Do you think that you have two left feet when it comes to getting on the dance floor?

If you are feeling that way, then you do not have to worry any longer!

If you are a beginner or haven't dusted off your dance shoes for a while, come on out on Monday nights, starting in September. We have 5 week sessions, learning steps in Waltz, Cha Cha, Foxtrot and Jive, at St. Andrews on the Square (2nd Ave. and Seymour St.)

Intermediate and Advanced classes are on Tuesday nights starting in September at St. Andrew's on the Square. Learn how to dance with style, grace and confidence.

Dress is casual and the atmosphere friendly.

For a general overview and a few basic steps in smooth and latin dances, consider our Nice 'n' Easy classes offered through Kamloops Parks & Rec on Sundays from 11:30 - 1:00.    These popular introductory classes will be offered again in the fall of 2008.    Watch for the schedule to be advertised later this spring !

WHY DANCE ?

AN EASY AND EFFECTIVE WAY TO EXERCISE

“Dancing is a symbol of youth but it’s no reason not to continue dancing for years.   I feel great and my dancing is improving.   It keeps me in good shape all year round.”

TO RELIEVE STRESS

“The cares and frustrations of everyday living seem to vanish on the dance floor.”

TO EXPAND YOUR SOCIAL CIRCLE

“I’ve made many new friends since I joined a dance class.  It’s a great way to meet people.”

FOR THE SHEER FUN OF IT

“I can’t think of a better way to spend my leisure time.   Every class offers something new and interesting.”

IT’S EASY

“If you can walk and know the difference between fast and slow, then you can learn to dance.  I thought I had two left feet, but I mastered the basic steps easily.”

FOR GREATER SELF-CONFIDENCE

“I’ve been able to overcome my shyness and now feel more confident about myself.”

OTHERS HAVE SAID:

“We look at the dance to impart the sensation of living in an affirmation of life, to energize the spectator into keener awareness of the vigor, the mystery, the humor, the variety, and the wonder of life. This is the function of the American dance.”

…. Martha Graham

“On with dance, let joy be unconfined, is my motto; whether there’s any dance to dance or any joy to unconfine. “

….. Mark Twain

“ Remember, Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, but she did it backwards and in high heels.”

…. Faith Whittlesey

About Footwear

We ask that all participants wear clean, indoor leather-soled shoes. No rubber soles, boots, street shoes or loose fitting footwear please. If you have a pair of comfortable good-fitting shoes, you can convert these to usable dance shoes if you ask a shoe repair shop to glue a suede finish to the soles.   This is an inexpensive way to obtain satisfactory footwear, particularly if you’re a newcomer to dance.

Once you have become committed to dancing, you may want to purchase a pair of commercial ballroom dance shoes. Ladies’ shoes are available in a wide variety of colours and designs, while men’s shoes are nearly always black, but offer some choice with respect to style.

Be prepared to pay $100 - $160 per pair.
